Le nombre de voitures neuves vendues n'a atteint que 266 018, soit 22 507 de moins que l'année précédente. Auto-Suisse estime toutefois que la baisse a été moins catastrophique que prévu. De plus, l'association des importateurs suisses d'automobiles entrevoit des indices pour une reprise cette année.

Les deux spécialistes allemands du haut de gamme BMW et Daimler ont annoncé mercredi des chiffres de ventes pour septembre meilleurs que depuis le début de l'année, une tendance qui devrait se poursuivre au dernier trimestre. Les deux groupes ont surtout progressé sur les marchés émergents, au premier rang desquels la Chine, où les ventes de Daimler ont bondi de 59% et celles de BMW de 35% (4ème marché de BMW). Les ventes de BMW ont aussi progressé au Brésil (+132%) et en Inde (+47%).

En marge du Salon de Francfort, le président du VDA, Matthias Wissman, a annoncé que l’Inde était un marché d’avenir pour l’industrie automobile. « En Allemagne, on compte 500 voitures pour 1 000 personnes. En Inde, ce chiffre est ramené à seulement 11 pour 1 000. Nous devons profiter de cet énorme potentiel économique », a-t-il déclaré. Il a ajouté qu’une zone de libre échange entre Inde et Union européenne serait nécessaire selon lui pour renforcer la coopération économique.

L'automobile, c'est le créneau choisi par certains pays arabes pour investir des fonds au moment où le secteur subit de plein fouet les effets de la crise économique même si une relative reprise est constatée durant le dernier trimestre en cours, suite aux mesures mises en place par les pays industrialisés, la relance totale n'est pas encore amorcée. Par exemple, cette situation de crise n'a pas empêché l'émirat du Qatar à injecter une somme importante dans la fusion Porsche et Volkswagen.
